In My Corner
Too many angry people around.
I edit my social media posts,
More carefully than I edit my school papers.
Everyone is bitter about something.
We’re not really sure what it’s about,
But they are way too generous with their rage.
Social media has not been social for a while.
Signing up now is placing yourself
On an untold battlefield.
You will fight for your reputation.
Or your peace, or your sanity —
All things we absolutely, definitely, most certainly, do not need to fight anyone for.
But we do.
We must.
Or we are uncool.
I object to this,
Yet I don’t see it changing.
I see it getting more creative in its ways.
Now you know why I’m not on Twitter.
Or am I?
I’d gladly tell you, but then I’d have to fight you.
Still,
If I am, you will certainly find me
in my own corner.
